Days 1 & 2 – Christchurch

Spend some time in Hagley Park and the botanical gardens, or visit the cathedral site where restoration is finally to begin after the devastating 2011 earthquake. Alternatively, pick up your car a day earlier and take a trip to the beautiful bay of Akaroa just 1-hour drive away.

Day 3 – Lake Tekapo

Collect your car and head towards Mount Cook and Lake Tekapo. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the lake or taking one of the walking trails. (approximately 3 hours drive).
1 night Lake Tekapo

Days 4 & 5 – Dunedin

Spend the morning exploring this beautiful lake area further before heading south to Dunedin. (Approximately 3 ½ hours drive).
Spend the day exploring this area. Why not visit Larnach Castle and gardens, take the scenic railway tour through Taieri Gorge, visit some of the beautiful bays or take a trip to Otago Peninsular, where you can find the Albatross Centre and the Blue Penguin colony.
2 nights Dunedin

Days 6 & 7 – Te Anau

Head west to the Fiordland National Park. (approximately 3 ½ hours drive).
Full day tour of Milford Sound. Visit the historical Gunns Camp and enjoy an amazing morning tea that includes wonderful date scones, tea, coffee and biscuits, chocolates and fruit juice. Experience an amazing 20-minute walk to the Chasm. You will then have the chance to take a spectacular 30-minute walk to Milford Sound and the Marian Cascade. Your day will be topped off with a 2-hour cruise on the famous Milford Sound. (Upgraded tour including scenic flights also available)
2 nights Te Anau.

Days 8 & 9 – Queenstown

Journey north to Queenstown. (Approximately 2 hours drive). Queenstown is the capital of adrenalin activities, bungy jumping, sky diving, rafting, canoeing, jet boats, river cruises, hiking, ziplining and many more. But if you prefer a more relaxing stay then why not take a walk around the town and along the waterfront, visit a local winery, or take the Skyline Gondola for some amazing views.
2 nights Queenstown

Days 10 & 11 – Franz Joseph

Head north via Wanaka to Franz Joseph (approximately 5 hours driving).
Take a heli tour to Franz Joseph and/or Fox Glacier including snow landing. Fly from our Franz Josef or Fox Glacier Heliport to the top of the Fox or Franz Josef icefall and land on the snow for a fantastic photographic opportunity. This entry-level flight will show you why so many are impressed by the sheer crevasses and pinnacles that form the icescapes of the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers. Be sure to book from the correct departure location (Fox or Franz Josef) – book for a Franz Josef departure if you are overnighting at Franz Josef OR book for a Fox Glacier departure if you are overnighting at Fox Glacier.

Day 12 – Greymouth

Continue your journey north to Greymouth where you can drop off your vehicle. (approximately 2 ¼ hours driving).

Day 13 – Day tour – Scenic Transalpine train to Christchurch

Drop off your vehicle and board a train through New Zealand’s Southern Alps on a gorgeous rail journey from Greymouth to Arthur’s Pass and Christchurch. The complete journey takes 4.5-hours, passing wide-open views, rugged peaks, and vast forests of native beech. Personal headsets with GPS-triggered audio commentary tell the story of the communities and places you’ll pass, with a combination of seats and open-air viewing decks for a comfortable ride.
